I am a Consultant in Ophthalmology in Birmingham, providing general ophthalmology and oculoplastic services in the hospital and the Community.

 

Following my study in medicine from Calcutta University I got trained in basic Ophthalmology at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. My training aided my ophthalmology house jobs in the North of England rotations. I went on to complete my Specialist Registrar training with a Subspecialist Training in Oculoplastic surgery from the West Midlands Deanery and gained comprehensive knowledge in all areas of ophthalmology, with particular emphasis on oculoplastic surgery and trauma management as a post CCT Fellow in Oculoplastic at Manchester.

 

My practical experience includes over 3500 cataract surgeries, more than 1000 lid procedures, including about 100 blepharoplasties. I am proficient in various laser surgeries too.

 

Over 20 published papers in peer-reviewed journals, presented widely at national and international meetings, have given me the necessary experience to consistently audit topics of local and national importance.

 

I am the Educational and Clinical Supervisor for Ophthalmic Trainees and actively involved in local and national recruitment of Medical Graduates and Ophthalmic trainees as well.

 

My varied experience has given me the opportunity to become the Lead Clinician and TSP Lead for Ophthalmic Theatres and a member of the Capital Equipment Committee.

 

An excellent working relationship with my Clinical and Management Colleagues has allowed me to achieve significant goals in delivering targets and enhancing services. I believe this puts me in an ideal position to apply for the post of Clinical Director in Ophthalmology.

 

Apart from being an ardent professional, I am also a keen cricketer and a table tennis player. Good food is another thing I really enjoy – in fact, I love to cook dinner and have it too.
